Hike the new trails at the Franc Preserve lead by Mary Ann Kulla. Meet at 3:00 pm for this leisurely walk. There should be an abundance of wild flowers which we’ll attempt to identify. Leashed, well behaved dogs are welcome.
Enjoy recently constructed trails which cross diverse terrain of field and forest on what was once a farm. We’ll discuss the flora and fauna of the area. We’ll stop to enjoy a gurgling stream, and you can take your shoes off and dip your toes in if you feel like it. The area is gently rolling land.
However it is hard to find the preserve. Pass Blue jay Orchards heading towards Newtown. Cross the intersection of Old Hawleyville and Plumtrees Rd. Continue down Old Hawleyville Rd. Look for the 3rd storm drain on the right. Immediately take a right turn onto a dirt road bordered by a stone wall. Go a short distance and you’re at the parking lot of the Franc preserve. Please dress to protect yourself from ticks.
